Today’s makeover: Nails.
I always love a fresh white tip french manicure, but since a good friend of mine is a nail tech, she has taught me to experience with different colors and designs. I have come to LOVE different colors for different seasons, I have tried some designs that may not have been quite my style…some worked, some didn’t. But the whole point is, try something new! I realized that although I felt comfortable with my french tip manicure, it’s important to step out of your comfort zone sometimes.
That’s really what makeovers come down to. Step out of who you “normally” are, and see how you feel experiencing something different. In this case, if you like to paint your nails or go to the salon and get your nails done, don’t always go for the same thing. When I was young, I had just about every color nail polish you could think of. I always loved painting my nails different colors. When my mom would bring us to the store, she would always buy me a $1 bottle of nail polish. This is how I got my huge collection of different colored polish. As the years went on, I became less and less “adventurous” with my nail colors. I found myself sticking to simple, “safe” colors…and before long, everyone knew me as always having a french manicure. I began to realize that I somehow gained the mindset that because I’m 25, I can’t wear certain colors on my nails….I was soon convinced otherwise.
Instead of going to get a “fill-in” and routinely saying “french tip”, I would say, “what are your ideas”? If she had an idea in mind for a design, a new color to try, or just having to talk me out of doing the same old thing, I listened. It has been about 7 months and roughly 12 nail colors/designs before I returned to a french tip. Even if you only choose a new color every now and then, make sure you force yourself try it…you will find that it gives you a little pep in your step!
- If you like “seasonal” trends, my favorite color for fall and winter is ‘Lincoln Park At Midnight’ by O.P.I. It’s a deep purple that almost looks black at first glance.
- Look in to the new crackle polishes that crack as soon as you paint them over another color. It leaves a leapard print kind of look!
- Go for colors that pop in the spring and summer. Trends this season seem to be bright, bold blues, purples, pinks and yellows.
These are just a few ideas to makeover your nails. Have a little fun and add a little color to your life 😉
